Walk Across Texas 30th Anniversary

Celebrating 30 years of helping Texans achieve and maintain an active lifestyle - one step, one mile, one community at a time

For 30 years, the Walk Across Texas program has supported communities across the state in taking meaningful steps toward more active lifestyles. Since its launch in 1996 by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, the program has engaged hundreds of thousands of Texans in a simple but powerful idea - moving together.

What began as a local initiative has grown into a statewide movement, bringing together families, schools, workplaces, and communities through friendly competition and shared goals focused on physical activity. Participants form teams and track miles as they collectively “walk across Texas”, creating an experience that makes activity fun and easy to incorporate into everyday routines.

As we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Walk Across Texas program, we recognize not only the miles logged, but the participants and communities who have helped make active living part of daily life across Texas.
