The first annual WELL CHURCH & COMMUNITY CONFERENCE was a success!

Church leaders have faced tremendous challenges to operate safely and engage communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now new concerns for church and community health and wellness are being faced. The WELL CHURCH & COMMUNITY CONFERENCE recordings are available for viewing. Viewing these recordings will show how you can positively edify your own church, and serve your community in the following areas:

  1. ACTIVE LIVING: Active lifestyles are essential to adding years to live, and life to years. Learn the basics, ideas for your church, and how to connect to and engage the community.  
  2. HEALTHY EATING: Poor diet is the #1 risk factor for early death, surpassing smoking. Learn how you can support healthy eating in your church, and serve the nutritional needs of your community.  
  3. OPIOID MISUSE: Opioid misuse accounts for 50% of all overdoses in Texas, and is on the rise. Learn sources of opioid risk, and simple ways to work alongside your community to prevent its misuse and abuse. 
  4. MENTAL WELLNESS: The pandemic, stress, social isolation, fears of re-integration, and other concerns continue to take a toll on clergy, congregants, and communities, highlighting the need for ways to help.

Speakers

We would like to express our deep appreciation for our speakers who made the WELL CHURCH & COMMUNITY CONFERENCE a reality. Their recorded presentations are available for anyone who was unable to attend the live, virtual proceeding.  

Morgan Bradley, MPH | Active Living

Morgan Bradley is a Community Outreach Program Manager for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in partnership with the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities. In her current role, she connects with people with disabilities and their families, collaborates with disability organizations, hosts community events, and conducts educational sessions and trainings on disability-related topics.

Michael Lopez, MUP | Active Living 

Mike Lopez is an Extension Program Specialist II with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. His role is to support County Extension Agents for Family and Community Health in their efforts related to active living. He also provides leadership for online, team-based physical activity programs. 

Jenna Anding, PhD | Healthy Eating

Jenna Anding is a Professor and Extension Specialist with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.  A registered and licensed dietitian, Jenna has more than 20 years of experience developing and evaluating education programs including those that are targeted towards limited resource audiences.  She also provides statewide support to Agents for Family and Community Health in the areas of food and nutrition and enjoys working at the community level to promote access to healthy foods

Jayla Fry, MS | Healthy Eating

Jayla Fry is the Texas Master Gardener Coordinator with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. She currently works with Master Gardener volunteers and coordinators throughout the state of Texas and teaches an introduction of the Texas Master Gardener Program and Plant Growth and Development.

 

Andrew Crocker, MS | Opioid Misuse

Andy Crocker is a Senior Extension Program Specialist within gerontology and health for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. His role is to support County Extension Agents for Family and Community Health in their efforts to educate older adults, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. 

Miquela Smith, MPH | Mental Wellness

Miquela Smith is an Extension Program Specialist II in health for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. She supports Family and Community Health Extension Agents in the north region of Texas within the areas of chronic disease prevention, mental wellness, and disaster resiliency.
